Basic hula steps (ha'a)
Ha'a #1: KAHOLO
Basic hula step that consists of 4 counts (two steps to the right, two steps to the left)
Ha'a #2: 'AMI
(ah mee) Hips rotation (like half a watermelon)
Ha'a #3: KA'O
Swaying from side to side
Ha'a #4: LELE
(leh' leh) walking with steps, lifting the heel and with a slight inward movement
Ha'a #5: 'UWEHE
One foot is lifted with weight shifting to the opposite hip as that foot is "Uehe" lowered; both knees are then pushed forward by the quick raising of the heels, with continued swaying of the hips from side to side. The actions are then repeated in reverse.
Ha'a #6: HELA
Knees are bent, weight place on one hip while the opposite leg and foot stretches out to form a 45 degree angle from the body.
(ah' mee OH' niu) - Rotating the hips in a figure 8, shifting weight from right hip to left. 'oniu means "spinning"
Ha'a #7: 'AMI 'ONIU (OR JUST 'ONIU)

Ha'a #8: KAWELU (OR KALAKAUA)
The first foot taps with the heel keeping the toes in one place while the other foot steps forward and backwards for two or more repetitions. The feet are reversed and the step is repeated.Ha'a #9: 'O
This is much like the kawelu but the foot is pivoted as it turns in the opposite direction.`O means to thrust
